Becca is 12!

Today is a special day because today is the day Rebecca Gayle Gaunch entered the world! I remember (through a slightly drug-induced haze) the moment I laid eyes on her. She had a beautiful tan (jaundice) complexion, big eyes, a tuft of dark hair and the fattest cheeks I'd seen in six years- since Garrett was born! And now she's 12 years old, almost a teenager. Does this mean this is her last official year of 'childhood'??? (sigh) I can't take one more milestone!

We celebrated by... going to school! Well, its a school day. What's a 12 year old to do? The only way to ease the pain was to bring cupcakes for her class to share. They were very willing to 'ease her pain' in that way.

We decided to meet Louie for dinner and see a movie. It seems like its rare for just the 5 of us to
go to dinner together and go to a movie. Becca decided on Red Lobster, which made us laugh because she doesn't actually like seafood much. It was SO fun because our waitress was a lady named Beth who goes to our church. Needless to say, we got the royal treatment. She brought out Becca a special "birthday girl drink".

Then after she got the birthday ice cream and song, our friend Beth even brought out the resaurant's namesake to wish Becca a Happy Birthday. She wasn't impressed!

There were a small pool of movies to choose from with an acceptable rating... so Becca settled on 'Gnomio and Juliet'. You must know that this silly cartoon is based on Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespere and my children are very familiar with his work. At Covenant School, you and 'Will" get to be big buddies from 7th grade through graduation. As it turned out, we were the only 5 people in the theater. And if you know Louie... you know that he saw this as an 'opportunity'. Ever wanted to talk loud in the movie? Go ahead. It's just us. You get the picture. Well, I kept him reigned in. Then we slipped on our 3-D glasses. Yep, I said 3-D. Because what can make British speaking gnomes even cooler? To have them coming at you in 3-D! Garrett and Hannah cracked up laughing through the whole movie because of all the hidden Shakespere refernces.

Do we look like we're coming at you in 3-D???

I didn't make Becca a birthday cake this year. I planned to... then we had a bake sale at church Sunday to raise money for a mission trip. Becca spotted a cake she liked and asked me to buy it instead of making her one. It was a Fred Flinstone cake. Devils Food. It's pretty hilarious looking. So we get home from the movie and decide to hack into Fred. But it begs the question. When you have a cake that looks like the person, where do you stick the candle? (We settled on his hand.)

Poor Fred looks like he's had an appedectomy and that he's been decapetated.

We had a great evening celebrating our beautiful (12 year old) baby girl.
