Garrett is 18!!!

I'm worn out but I had to take a minute to shout out that
my baby boy is 18 years old today!

I cannot believe it. Eighteen years ago when I met my son for the first time, we were digging out from the blizzard of 1993 to get to the hospital. Today was a stark contrast- 70 degrees and sunny. He was 8 pounds 4 1/2 ounces and 21 1/2 inches long... after an emergency C-section and a very loooong day of labor. (I just had to get that detail in) He had the chubbiest cheeks I'd ever seen and he just looked up at me and blinked. From the very first year, he was my little buddy, running around in overalls, bobbing his head to music and grinning constantly.

It was a busy-as-usual school and work day today but he HAD to go this afternoon and get his new "adult" driver's licence. And another college acceptance letter came today- from Grove City College in Pennsylvania- his 2nd choice. Yeah!

After the DMV, haircuts, dance class, work and such, we all met up for dinner. We shared the usual birthday brownie with ice cream around the table.

I blinked. That's what it seemed like just happened. From toddler to man in 60 seconds. We're really proud of him- not for the scholarships or test scores or singing ability... for being a 'man' (I'm going to have to practice saying that!!) who has a relationship with God, who has integrity and has a great heart for people.

Happy Birthday, bub!
